Our Mission
The Happiness Patrol exists to create affordable and accessible productions of classical plays and stories which are specifically designed for intimate performance spaces. The company is committed to finding original ways to engage modern audiences with classical texts and authors. By rewriting the classics, sometimes discreetly, sometimes drastically, The Happiness Patrol offers exciting new perspectives on increasingly unfamiliar works.
“…a writing and acting partnership dedicated to adapting and performing classic stories, in the belief that there is an audience for such work in the theatre. On the evidence of their production of ‘The Masque of the Red Death’, that belief is justified.” - Reviewsgate.com on The Masque of the Red Death
The Happiness Patrol is committed to creating opportunities for audiences, artists and venues in the West Midlands to get involved with classical theatre.
We want to develop new audiences for classical work, as well as offering new perspectives which will continue to engage and excite existing theatregoers.
We want to cultivate relationships with artists who are based in the region, or who trained here, as a way of sustaining and nurturing the Midlands’ creative industry.
We want to forge new relationships with venues which will boost the region's creative economy and which will make classic theatre productions available and accessible to the widest possible number of people.
